The magic of a cold winter day (now gone)

Yes, we had two days below zero degrees and it brought on the usual problems: cold cars with doors that wouldn't open, a slippery staircase and a need to dress every single child a bit warmer (several layers = angry kids).

But with a childs eyes it wasn't just bad. My daughter went out to the car, amazed, because the cold frosty surfaces were glittering like fairy magic - everything was perfectly beautiful! Her angry mother could have said: "yes darling, it's the magical creatures of winter that have painted the world with silver", but instead she said: "that means it's slippery, watch your steps!"

Thinking about it afterwards made me look a bit longer - there really is something magical about the frosty surfaces; so next time I will try to be more poetic than practical about it!
